Retention & Recruitment Seminar at San Jac

San Jacinto College hosted a seminar on recruitment and retention at North campus on Wednesday that was attended by colleges and universities from the Houston area. The seminar provided both great information and discussion for the attendees. There were four speakers including San Jac’s own Dr. Laurel Williamson. Dr. Williamson discussed the changing face of retention at San Jacinto College. During her presentation she focused on some of the strategies that San Jac is employing to help students reach their goals, these include mandatory orientation for first-time in college students, coming changes to late registration for fall 2010 in the College Preparatory area, and the “Just One More” initiative. She also talked briefly about a tool San Jac is currently piloting to help identify at risk students sooner and get them back on track, Starfish Retention Solutions.

Other speakers at the event were Vickie Alleman, Vice President of Marketing Communications from the University of St. Thomas in Houston who spoke on “Strategic Recruiting: The Key to Institutional Success”.  Jack Dilanian, Vice President of Intelliworks, and Wade Howard, Regional Sales Manager for Starfish Retention Systems, presented information on their products that can be used to support the recruiting and retention process.
